Principal Accountability
Under the direction of the Versiti Controller, the Manager, Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) for Versiti Blood Services provides financial analysis, planning and reporting, cost accounting and analysis, business case and external partnering support to the Blood Services service line across Versiti, including Marketing and Corporate Development support as needed.   The Manager, FP&A – Blood Services will coordinate financial activities across Versiti Blood Services affiliate locations to ensure alignment, accuracy and timeliness of information to drive decisions and actions, and will make recommendations to Blood Services, Marketing, Corporate Development and Versiti leadership for executing projects and other improvements to enhance customer satisfaction, financial margins, and business growth and development.   This position will supervise one Senior Financial Analyst.  


Financial and Decision Support Analysis

  • Manages strategic financial support to the Versiti Blood Services service line, including related support for Marketing and Corporate Development activities.  Oversees financial analysis support and proactively manages relationships with the affiliate Controllers, and the Blood Services and Marketing leadership teams; ensures appropriate ongoing financial analysis and support for current operations and future operational proposals. 
  • Provides leadership across Versiti sites for the development of Blood Services financial plans, budgets, forecasts, financial/statistical reports, market/customer analysis, pricing, costing models, financial impact assessments, and recommendations for operational improvements. 
  • Reports and provides management with reliable, timely information necessary to understand operational drivers, including interpreting operational results as they affect the financial aspects of the business.  Creates and develops internal reports, including monthly variance, trending and growth reporting.  Coordinates the collection and distribution of Versiti Blood Services strategic metrics, as well as monthly metrics, analytics, and financial presentations.  In particular, leads Versiti’s activities around measuring and improving blood products’ cost per unit sold (CPU-S) and collected (CPU-C), ensuring appropriate consistency and rigor across areas, as well as driving any needed changes to the methodology.
  • Provides project leadership in executing operational improvements linked to cost reductions, productivity improvements and new business development.
  • Supports Corporate Development and the executive leadership team on the financial modeling of potential new affiliations, joint ventures, strategic projects, or other type of business development activity. Coordinates and distributes workload across team to complete required activities in line with expectations.
  • Develops strong understanding of Blood Services business process flows and recommends improvements to enhance customer satisfaction and Blood Services financial margins. 
  • Creates consistency of financial analysis tools and processes, helping drive effective and efficient practices for the Finance function.
  • Complies with policies and procedures to ensure the quality of financial reporting/analysis, and to enhance the overall effectiveness and efficiency of the Finance function.  Communicates policies and procedures effectively and consistently.  Annually updates Versiti policies around transfer pricing and cost allocations. 
  • Continuously improves processes in a manner considered best practice by the industry.  Collaborates with the Versiti Controller to set key targets and measures for effectiveness and executes processes to achieve goals.
  • Develops effective customer service strategies and process improvements designed to meet and/or exceed customer requirements as well as the training needed to promote and assure high satisfaction levels.
  • Provides technical expertise and assistance to customers and colleagues including management, executive team and Board.  Elevates financial literacy of Versiti.  Trains and educates non-financial managers in basic accounting and finance principles as need, in formal and informal settings.
  • With the Sr. Financial Analyst, provides direct support to the BloodCenter of Wisconsin Blood Services on all of the above financial activities, in addition to coordinating and consolidating these activities across affiliates.
Long Range Planning, Budgeting and Forecasting
  • Lead financial support activities for Versiti Blood Services 3-year rolling strategic plans, including coordination and consolidation of financials across Versiti affiliates.
  • Lead processes to provide annual a consolidated operating budget and necessary rolling forecasts for Blood Services across Affiliates. Coordinates teams across Versiti to drive completion of planning on time with a high level of accuracy and business partnership.
Financial Systems and Process Support
  • Participates in the development, enhancement, and maintenance of the organization’s financial systems including assisting in product selection decisions, working on design and implementation of  projects, performing ongoing upgrades and troubleshooting, and creating/modifying system generated reports and inquiries.
  • Creates, maintains and updates, as needed, standard operating procedures (SOPs) that influence the day-to-day activities of the team, including ensuring appropriate consistency and application of SOPs across affiliates. 
  • Identifies and drives financial process improvement initiatives in the area of financial planning and analysis, and supports other financial process improvement initiatives as needed. Effectively uses continuous improvement, Lean and/or Six Sigma methodologies to help identify and drive improvements and to align with best practices in areas of responsibility.
Quality Assurance/Improvement and Regulatory Compliance
  • Develops and maintains knowledge of current regulations and accreditation requirements pertaining to areas of responsibility; ensures changes to regulations are implemented.
  • Ensures all relevant Quality System Documents (QSDs) for responsible area are current, appropriately implemented, and monitored as needed for the uniformity and quality of operations in keeping with current regulations and standards.
Human Resource Management
  • Provides effective coaching/feedback, recognition, performance evaluation, hiring, discipline, and termination activities to direct reports, as needed, in collaboration with Human Resource Services and in compliance with administrative policy.
  • Implements staff development ensuring effective job design, goal setting, training, and development of personal, departmental performance standards, and performance monitoring tools.
  • Ensures staff understands service model and delivers quality service to their customers.
  • Actively participates in Finance leadership team activities and drives decision making in key areas of responsibility.
General Duties
  • Actively contributes to Versiti Finance Leadership Team activities and meetings.  Leads assigned projects and initiatives.
  • Provides support for other Finance activities, as needed, including elevating the financial literacy of the organization.


  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university required 
  • MBA or relevant Master’s Degree preferred
  • CPA (Certified Public Accountant) certification helpful but not required.
  • 5 years of finance or accounting experience
  • Experience in a health care or manufacturing environment
  • Experience with an integrated accounting and finance systems
  • Experience writing financial statements and management reports
  • Oracle Cloud or other ERP system experience is a plus
  • Project Management experience is a plus.
Skills and Knowledge
  • Excellent reasoning and analytical ability with the ability to effectively communicate financial information to management 
  • Effective problem solving, decision making, conflict resolution, and organizational management abilities
  • Effective verbal and written communication, presentation, interpersonal and customer service skills, including the ability to effectively communicate across multiple locations
  • Ability to contribute to a successful, collaborative team environment
  • Effective working knowledge of GAAP and current accounting practices
  • Ability and willingness to travel (primarily via automobile) to affiliate locations up to ¼ of the time
  • Extensive knowledge of spreadsheets, word processing, database and other personal computer applications, including integrated information systems.
